EXTRA LIFE

"An expression of an Extra Life, this work confirms the vision of Derrick De Kerckhove according to whom the identity and imagination of an individual extend beyond personal and linguistic borders, and are annexed to television monitors, computers, big urban screens. Away from the subjective and private dimension of the mind, from its world of aspirations, ambitions and dreams, his reconstructions of interiors are connected with a hitherto unknown collective imagination. News, shows, nature documentaries, cultural programmes no longer act on the private conscience, but on the public. Through an intangible vision, which has no memory of environments, laboratories, dusty shelves for books and physical objects , which has lost human timescales of formulation and reflection in the face of the instantaneousness of the virtual, the perception forms of a cold , aseptic, notional knowledge, based on numbers and statistics, rather than opinions and common sense, leading to widespread anxiety. ."

MOSTRA "EXTRA LIFE" 2011

"In Leonardo Pierro's work the great lesson of a Master of the naturalistic In-formal, such as Sergio Saroni, encounters the imaginary extreme of the web surfer. Two large waves coming from opposite directions collide and raise a column of rainbow refractions, reflecting different scenarios of an underworld which cannot be placed geographically and historically, which has no reference to either spatial or aesthetic dimension. Past and present come together in areas where gold leaf meets digital processing, where the sacred icon interacts with everyday pop idols. His work represents a movement of its own, an epochal turning point characterized by technical reproduction, aesthetic qualities and widespread multi-media technology. Protagonist of his visual research, in its pictorial expression, is the view which the phantasmagoria of the objects and compulsive behaviour of a mass society, with its consumer-capitalist imprint, returns to the author and the viewer. In front of a work that seems to represent the story of a dream related to a psychoanalyst, one asks the question posed by Georges Lapassade when he wonders whether man makes a responsible choice to be the subject and conscious actor of his story, or whether he lets himself drift , dragged along by the current of a social atomization with no exit, by signing the waiver of collective social reaction."
